Urban Art

Richmond City is full of urban art, whether it’s a well-designed mural or colorful tagging of graffiti decorating walls and alleyways. You’ll never know what inspirational gem you might see as you explore Richmond City.

It’s debatable whether graffiti can count as art or desecration. Stickers and freehand messages can be found painted across walls, sidewalks, signs, what-have-you. Either way, it is technically an expression of some sort of message to the world, normally suppressed and bursting forth with a slap of swirling spray paint. It’s not always about destruction for destruction’s sake.

The Richmond Mural Project

The Richmond Mural Project (URL located below) has designed a website to track the year and location of Richmond’s murals. Seeing them in person is an excellent way to get to know the city and appreciate the creatives who have worked to beautify the city.
