College Creek Beach

College Creek Beach

Located an hour’s drive outside Richmond City lies Jamestown, a historical and natural haven. Although I briefly visited the Jamestown Beach Event Park, I found more quiet and comfort at College Creek Beach, located off of the Colonial Parkway.

College Creek Beach is a narrow strip of land with a shallow sand bar toward the middle of the river. It was considerably more peaceful, since there was plenty of space to lie in the sun or even find some shade under a tree. Swimming is not recommended at College Creek because of the strong undercurrent that has been the culprit in several drownings. However, as long as you stay near the shoreline, it shouldn’t be too big of an issue. Just pull out a chair or towel and read a book to get a full day of solace.

There are no amenities available at this location. Come prepared with food and beverages for the day. There is no restroom.

I took advantage of the isolation to photograph trees, roots and vines, and water. There isn’t much more to share than sandy beachfront, warm breezes, and cool water.
